Four theme parks. Eleven hotels. A brand-new world that opened in 2025. Here's everything your family needs to plan the ultimate Universal vacation.
β¨ Plan My Universal TripThe original Florida park built on the "ride the movies" concept. Home to Harry Potter's Diagon Alley, Springfield, Hollywood, and some of Universal's most iconic experiences. A classic that keeps getting better.
Home to the most thrilling rides in Orlando. Islands of Adventure is where Hogsmeade lives, VelociCoaster reigns, and every land is its own fully immersive world. The thrill-seeker's park.
Universal's most ambitious park ever β five fully immersive worlds branching off a central hub called Celestial Park. With over 50 experiences, this is a full day park that has fundamentally changed what a theme park can be.
Universal's Polynesian-themed water park uses TapuTapu wristbands instead of physical lines β you get a virtual queue for slides so you can explore the rest of the park while you wait. A genuinely different water park experience.
Each world in Epic Universe has its own dedicated portal entrance, fully themed atmosphere, unique attractions, dining, and shopping. Plan to spend 2β3 hours per world minimum.
Universal's Express Pass system is different from Disney's Lightning Lane β and in many ways more flexible. There's no booking window, no return times, and no app required. You simply show up to the Express line at any participating ride, any time. Here's how it breaks down.
Allows you to use the Express line once per participating attraction at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
Skip the lines as many times as you want at USF and Islands of Adventure β ride VelociCoaster ten times if you want. Your room key acts as your pass if staying at select hotels. Best value on busy days.
A separate Express Pass purchase exclusively for Epic Universe. Standard 1x-per-ride format β no unlimited option currently available for Epic Universe. Not included with any hotel stay.
Universal crowds track closely with school calendars. With four parks now open, the resort is bigger than ever β and Epic Universe in particular draws significant demand. Here's when to go and when to avoid.
Post-holiday quiet. Low crowds and great hotel rates after the first week.
Mardi Gras season kicks off with concerts and entertainment. Manageable crowds most weeks.
Spring break ramps up. Mardi Gras continues. Avoid mid-month if possible.
Spring break peak plus Easter. Some of the highest crowds of the year.
Early May is a sweet spot before summer. Late May picks up with Memorial Day and school end.
Summer begins. Crowds build across all four parks as school lets out nationwide.
Peak summer. 4th of July is one of the busiest times of year across the entire resort.
Still busy but easing late in the month. Heat and humidity are at their peak in Florida.
Post-Labor Day is excellent. Halloween Horror Nights begins β a must for adult fans.
Halloween Horror Nights runs select nights. Daytime crowds are manageable on non-HHN nights.
Thanksgiving week is extremely busy. Early November is one of the best times of the whole year.
Holidays at Universal are festive and beautiful β but extremely crowded from mid-December through New Year's.
Universal's flagship special event runs select nights September through early November at Universal Studios Florida. Separately ticketed β world-class haunted houses, scare zones, and live entertainment. One of the best Halloween events anywhere. Sells out frequently; book early.
Running February through April, Universal's Mardi Gras celebration features nightly concerts from major artists (included with park admission), a Mardi Gras parade with beads, authentic Cajun food, and immersive decorations throughout the park.
The Wizarding World gets a breathtaking Christmas makeover with Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley transforming for the season. A Christmas Parade, The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle, and holiday entertainment fill the parks through early January.
Universal has eleven on-site hotels split across three tiers. The biggest decision is whether to stay at a Premier Collection hotel (which includes free Express Unlimited at USF and IOA) or save money at a lower tier. All hotels include Early Park Admission to all four parks.
Italian Riviera-themed luxury resort β arguably Universal's most beautiful hotel. Three pools, a harbor view, multiple fine dining options, and Mandara Spa. Walking distance to CityWalk.
The rock star hotel of Universal Orlando. Pool with underwater music system, character meet & greets, and the closest Premier hotel walk to the parks. Always a guest favorite for energy and vibe.
South Pacific-themed resort with the most affordable rates of the three Express Premier hotels. Lagoon pool, luau entertainment, and the same Express Unlimited benefit as its pricier siblings.
These hotels include Early Park Admission and all standard resort transportation but do not include Express Pass.
Caribbean-themed resort with a gorgeous pool and sandy beach area. Awe-inspiring lobby with waterfall feature. Strong food and beverage options. Great value for a resort-quality stay.
The brand-new 500-room hotel anchoring Epic Universe with a dedicated park entrance. Mediterranean-inspired with rooftop bar and pool overlooking Epic Universe. Does not include Express Unlimited.
Modern, sleek tower hotel with stunning views of all three original parks from upper-floor rooms. Rooftop bar, clean design, and solid amenities at a mid-range price point.
1950s/60s Florida beach resort style β retro, fun, and family-friendly with two giant pools and a lazy river. Largest on-site hotel; standard rooms and two-bedroom suites available. Bowling alley on-site.
Universal's most affordable hotel, with a bright coastal theme and two-bedroom suites at an incredible value. Great pool complex. Requires shuttle to the parks β slightly longer travel time.
Adjacent to Surfside, same pricing tier, same shuttle transportation. More rooms including family suites that sleep up to six guests. Best on-site bang for the buck in the Universal portfolio.
Lombard's Seafood GrilleSeafood restaurant and charming respite from the day, offering Lobster Bisque, Bang Bang Shrimp Bowl, Salmon Beurre Blanc, Lobster Rolls and more.Finnegan's Bar & Grill (USF) for Irish comfort food. Emeril's Orlando and NBC Sports Grill & Brew in CityWalk.
Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade for Great Feast family dining. The Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley for pub food. Both serve Butterbeer β the iconic frozen, cold, or hot version. The Hopping Pot for quick snacks in Hogsmeade.
Each world in Epic Universe has themed restaurants: Ministry of Magic has French cafΓ©-style dining; Super Nintendo World features mushroom-themed quick service; Isle of Berk has Viking-style feasting halls. All theming is fully immersive.
The free-admission entertainment district outside the parks is packed with options: Toothsome Chocolate Emporium for elaborate milkshakes, Voodoo Doughnut, NBC Sports Grill, Hot Dog Hall of Fame, and more. Open late and no park ticket needed.
Butterbeer (Wizarding World) is a non-negotiable. The Jurassic Outpost nachos in IOA are legendary. In Epic Universe, interactive dining experiences are part of the world-building β expect characters and themed performances while you eat.
Signature restaurants benefit from advance reservations. Most Universal quick-service locations and CityWalk restaurants don't require reservations. Use the Universal Orlando app to check wait times and make reservations where available.
Do the Express Pass hotel math before you book. For a family of 4 visiting USF and Islands of Adventure, Express Unlimited can cost more per day than a room at Loews Royal Pacific β which includes it free. Run the numbers, and let me help you find the best deal for your dates.
Dedicate a full separate day to Epic Universe. Plan it as its own full day β it deserves it. Five worlds with 50+ experiences will fill your entire day.
Buy Park-to-Park if you want Hogwarts Express. The Hogwarts Express running between Hogsmeade (IOA) and Diagon Alley (USF) is one of the best experiences Universal has ever built β but it requires a park-to-park ticket. Don't miss it by buying single-park.
Use Early Park Admission aggressively. All on-site hotel guests get into the parks one hour early. Use that hour to hit Hagrid's Motorbike Adventure, VelociCoaster, or Rise of the Resistance before standby times spike. It's genuinely one of the best perks at any theme park resort.
Hagrid's is the crown jewel β and the hardest to ride. Harry Potter and Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Islands of Adventure is one of the greatest theme park attractions ever built. It doesn't have an Express Pass option β only standby. Go at rope drop or use the virtual line via the app when available.
In Epic Universe, get a Power-Up Band for Super Nintendo World. The interactive experience in Super Nintendo World uses Power-Up Bands to punch question blocks, collect coins, and battle bosses throughout the land. It's a layer of engagement that makes the area genuinely special β especially for kids.
Skip the line with the Universal app. The Universal Orlando app has virtual lines and wait times for all four parks. Check it throughout the day β lines fluctuate significantly, and mid-afternoon is often the best time to hit popular rides as crowds shift to dining.
Build in at least 4 days. With four parks now open, you need 4β5 days to do Universal Orlando right: at minimum one day each for USF, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe, plus a half-day at Volcano Bay. Don't rush it β I can help you build a day-by-day itinerary that makes the most of every hour.
Four parks, eleven hotels, and more decisions than you should have to make alone. I'll build you a custom Universal Orlando plan β completely free.
